Das Open Directory wurde im Sinne der Open-Source-Bewegung gegründet und ist als einzig wichtiges Verzeichnis zu 100% kostenlos. Weder heute, noch irgendwann in der Zukunft wird für das Vorschlagen von Websites beim Verzeichnis oder für das Benutzen der Daten eine Gebühr erhoben.
